1. How would you describe your role at Twig?

My role is double faceted as I am a point of contact for both our clients and external business partners. For our clients, I am a dedicated resource to help them with all things finance and billing, such as discussing government and private insurance and payment options. My primary goal is to help clarify details and build confidence when it comes to coverage and payments so our clients can focus on what really matters – planning and building their family.

2. What do you love most about your job?

Being in this role, I get a macro view of all the parts involved that make our practice work. I can truly say that our team constantly strives to provide the best experience through our expertise and compassionate care. I am honoured to be part of this group and am excited to see how we can continue to better fertility care.

3. What do you want people to know about your role and billing at Twig that they may not know today?

That I am an extension of their care team. I feel many clients may see me primarily as the person who sends estimates and invoices, but I am truly here to support. 4. What are the questions you recommend to all our clients to ask their insurers or employers when starting fertility?

Starting fertility treatment in any capacity can be overwhelming. The good news is that a growing number of companies are opting into extended coverage plans that include fertility benefits, so it is important to feel confident in asking lots questions.

I encourage our clients to confirm their benefits and to contact their providers and ask specifically what the coverage for fertility drugs and treatments are. 

Initial testing is generally covered by the government insurance plan (OHIP) but there are some elective tests that are not OHIP insured. Insurance may cover them though when claimed under a supplemental health spending account so it is also important to ask if this is something you have access to.

Our in-house pharmacy is also happy to assist with checking your fertility drugs coverage. We are also able to bill your insurance directly if you choose to pick up your prescriptions here.

5. Why does Twig not have government funded cycles?

This is one of our most frequently asked questions and simply put, we did not exist when the funded cycles were assigned.

When Ontario began its publicly funded program in December 2015, it was made available for existing clinics to participate. Twig was not yet open and there have been no updates to the funding to date. Should there be any changes to the program or the possibility of Twig to participate, we would love to be able to offer it.
