Provincial coverage for fertility services varies by province. Here’s what you need to know for Ontario:

  • Many initial fertility services like consultations and diagnostic testing are covered through OHIP.
  • Twig Fertility is now an approved clinic under the Ontario Fertility Program (OFP) giving eligible patients the opportunity to access government-funded IVF cycles. Availability is currently open and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis to those who qualify.

We’re here to help you navigate your financial options and ensure you understand what support is available including tax credits, insurance, employer benefits, and payment plans.

Provincial and federal tax credits are available to help offset some of the costs that fertility patients can incur.

Ontario Fertility Treatment Tax Credit (Effective as of January 1, 2025)

Starting in the 2025 tax year, Ontario residents can benefit from a new refundable tax credit.

  • Coverage: 25% of eligible fertility-related expenses.
  • Annual Maximum Credit: $5,000, applicable to up to $20,000 in qualifying expenses.
  • Eligibility: Expenses must be incurred within the 2025 calendar year and not reimbursed by insurance or other programs.

Eligible Expenses Include:

  • Fertility treatments including IVF, IUI, and Egg Freezing
  • Fertility Medications
  • Cryostorage (egg, sperm, embryos) fees

The Government of British Columbia has announced a publicly funded IVF program set to launch in 2025 — a major step forward in access to fertility care.

While our Vancouver clinic is not yet open, we are actively monitoring program details as they become available. Once our clinic opens, we will assess eligibility and apply to participate as soon as possible.

Federal tax credits are available to help offset some of the costs that fertility patients can incur.

Getting a complete picture of your reproductive health is the first step toward planning your fertility journey. Comprehensive diagnostic testing helps assess ovarian reserve, uterine health, and reproductive hormone levels. Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is the process of placing sperm directly into the uterus to help achieve a pregnancy. This is often paired with ovarian stimulation using oral or injectable fertility medication.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is the process of growing and retrieving eggs from the ovaries, and fertilizing them with sperm in our in house lab to create embryos. This may be followed by a fresh or frozen embryo transfer, depending on your treatment plan.

Fresh Embryo Transfer

A Fresh Embryo Transfer is the process of transferring an embryo to your uterus 5 days following your egg retrieval or egg thaw.

Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET)

A Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) is the process of thawing and transferring a frozen embryo created in an IVF cycle to your uterus. In the weeks prior to the FET, we will prepare your uterus to receive the embryo which may or may not involve the use of fertility medications.

Egg Thaw Cycle

An Egg Thaw Cycle is the process of thawing your own previously frozen eggs, fertilizing them with sperm, and creating embryos. This may be followed by a fresh or frozen embryo transfer +/- preimplantation genetic testing, depending on your treatment plan.

Preimplantation Genetic Testing

Embryo biopsy and preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A) is a screening test that can help us select the best embryos to transfer during an IVF cycle.

Egg Freezing

An egg freezing cycle takes approximately 2 weeks, during which time your ovaries are stimulated with medication to grow multiple mature eggs. The eggs are then retrieved by a physician during a short procedure before being frozen and stored for future use. From consult to completion, the entire process takes around 2-3 months.

The first year of storage is included in the price however, the cost of AMH testing and medication, which can range between $4,000-$6,000+ depending on your protocol, is not included.

Reciprocal IVF

Reciprocal IVF allows couples where both partners have eggs and/or uteruses to participate in conception. One partner undergoes ovarian stimulation and egg retrieval. The eggs are fertilized with donor sperm to create embryos, which are frozen. An embryo is then transferred into the other partner during a Frozen Embryo Transfer cycle.
