Eligibility

Am I eligible for a funded IVF cycle?

Answer the three questions below to find out whether you might be eligible.

Are you a resident of Ontario with a valid OHIP card?
What is the age of the patient providing eggs?
Have you previously used a funded IVF cycle?
The full criteria
  1. Ontario Resident

You must be an Ontario resident with a valid Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) card at the time of treatment.

  2. Under 43 Years Old

You must be under the age of 43 at the time of your OFP-funded cycle.

  3. First Funded Cycle

Have not previously used your OFP-funded cycle. The OFP provides one funded cycle per eligible individual, including all embryo transfers from that cycle.

  4. Treatment plan in place

The OFP requires a documented IVF treatment plan from a participating fertility clinic. Your plan is built collaboratively with our team. As a participating fertility clinic, Twig handles the documentation requirements so you don’t have to chase forms.

Coverage

What's covered. And what's not.

Funded IVF is delivered by the same REIs, in the same lab, with the same standards as a self-pay cycle. The only difference is who pays for it.

Common Questions

Answers, before you ask.

To be eligible for OFP funding, you must be an Ontario resident with a valid Ontario Health Card (OHIP) at the time of treatment.

No. Only the individual planning to carry the pregnancy needs to be under 43 years old at the time of retrieval.

Each eligible individual receives one funded IVF cycle per lifetime, regardless of clinic. If you’ve previously used your funded cycle elsewhere, you would not be eligible for another.

OFP-funded cycles can be managed across both of our Toronto locations. Cycle monitoring and diagnostic testing are available at either our Midtown or our Downtown clinic, whichever is more convenient for you. Egg retrievals and embryo transfers take place exclusively at our Midtown location, where our embryology lab is based.

No. Twig Fertility currently has no waitlist for funded IVF cycles. Once your IVF treatment plan is in place with one of our REIs and eligibility is confirmed, you can begin your funded cycle right away.

No referral is needed. You can book your initial consult yourself online. Your first appointment with a fertility specialist is covered by OHIP.

Medications (approximately $4,000 to $8,000 depending on protocol), genetic testing (PGT), costs related to donor sperm or eggs, shipping, embryo storage, and CHLOE™ AI Embryo Quality add-ons. Many of these expenses qualify for the Ontario Fertility Tax Credit.

Yes. Ontario offers the Fertility Tax Credit, which covers 25% of eligible out-of-pocket fertility expenses up to $20,000 per year (maximum tax credit of $5,000 annually).

Yes, when it’s medically necessary. The OFP funds fertility preservation prior to treatments that may affect future fertility, such as chemotherapy, radiation, or gender-affirming surgery. Elective (non-medical) egg freezing is not eligible for OFP funding.

No. Funded IVF cycles are reserved for patients actively trying to become pregnant. Embryo banking for future use is not eligible for OFP funding.
