Our embryology lab
The team.
The tech.
Twig’s labs are built with timelapse for every embryo, top-grade air filtration, electronic sample tracking, and embryologists led by a Chief Scientific Officer with international credentials.
- Specialist LeadChief Scientific Officer with FRCPath and FAHCS Fellowships.
- On-Site EmbryologyYour eggs never leave the building.
- Watch Your EmbryosDaily CHLOE timelapse footage to your phone.
Inside the Lab
Steps from the procedure room Never out of sight.
Your eggs are handed across a window, from the physician performing the retrieval to the embryologist receiving them. They never leave our sight, never leave our building.
For up to seven days, your embryos develop in temperature, humidity, and atmosphere controlled incubators. Every ten minutes, a camera records them. You watch every cell division from your phone.
Both Twig labs run the same protocols and equipment, set by the Chief Scientific Officer.

Leadership
Meet our Chief Scientific Officer.

“We build every lab to the same standard, because consistency is what gives patients confidence.”
- FRCPathFellow, Royal College of Pathologists
- FAHCSFellow, Academy for Healthcare Science
- 4 continentsIVF labs designed across the world
- Award-winningOutstanding Contribution to Reproductive Science
Andrew Thomson is the Chief Scientific Officer at Twig Fertility, where he leads scientific strategy, laboratory standards, and innovation across the organization. He was the third reproductive scientist in the UK to be awarded Fellowships from both the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath) and the Academy for Healthcare Science (FAHCS).
He has received an Outstanding Contribution Award recognizing his impact on reproductive science and clinical practice, and is an internationally invited speaker on IVF laboratory innovation and best practices. Over his career, he has designed and developed IVF laboratories across four continents, supporting clinics worldwide in adopting cutting-edge technologies and optimizing workflows.
Andrew sets the lab standards across Twig. Day-to-day, your cycle is run by an embryology team trained to those standards in each clinic.
The Tools
Six things that make this lab different.
- Patient Transparency
CHLOE™ Embryo Viewer
Watch your embryos develop day by day on your phone. Real timelapse footage of your own cycle, with the same view our embryologists use.
- Included on self-pay cycles
- Add-on for OFP
- AI Quality Scoring
CHLOE™ EQ Reports
Standardized embryo quality scores generated from millions of timelapse data points. A second opinion that helps inform your transfer decision.
- Built on millions of embryos
- Continuous Imaging
Timelapse Technology
Embryos are photographed every ten minutes for five to seven days without leaving the incubator. Stable temperature, stable atmosphere, no disruption.
Every 10 minutes - Air Quality
Lifeaire Air Systems
The top grade of air filtration, standard for every Twig cycle. Removes volatile organic compounds and particulates that can compromise embryo development.
Exceeding Canadian Standards - Electronic Tracking
RI Witness
Every sample, every transfer, every embryo electronically tracked from retrieval to transfer. No paper labels. Designed to eliminate human-error mix-ups.
RFID-verified - Vitrification
Gold-Standard Preservation
Ultra-rapid freezing for eggs and embryos. Vitrification produces survival rates in excess of 95% for eggs and 98% for embryos.
Industry standard
Lab Questions
Answers from our embryology team.
Steps from every procedure room. Your eggs are handed across the window, never couriered to a third-party facility. The lab is staffed by our exceptional embryologists during every cycle.
Our Chief Scientific Officer, Andrew Thomson, leads scientific strategy and laboratory standards across the organization. The day-to-day work in each clinic is run by our certified embryology team.
CHLOE™ is an AI-powered embryo assessment tool developed by Fairtility. It analyzes timelapse footage of your embryos and generates objective quality scores, which our embryologists use alongside their clinical training to inform transfer decisions. You can also watch your own embryos develop and see their scores through the CHLOE™ Embryo Viewer. CHLOE is included on every self-pay IVF cycle and every egg freezing cycle; on funded IVF cycles, it’s available as an add-on.
Lifeaire is a hospital-grade air filtration system used by the world’s most advanced fertility clinics. It removes volatile organic compounds (VOCs), aldehydes, and particulates that can compromise embryo development. Air quality is one of the most overlooked variables in IVF outcomes, and Lifeaire represents the gold standard.
RI Witness is an electronic sample-tracking system. Every dish, every embryo, every patient sample is tagged with an RFID chip. The system verifies a match every time a sample is moved, biopsied, or transferred. It eliminates the possibility of human-error mix-ups that paper-label systems can’t prevent.
Yes. Through the CHLOE™ Embryo Viewer, you receive minute-by-minute timelapse footage of your embryos as they develop in our incubator, along with their quality scores. It’s a level of transparency most fertility clinics don’t offer, and patients tell us it’s one of the most meaningful parts of their cycle.
Yes. Both Twig labs follow the same protocols, run the same CHLOE-equipped timelapse incubators, are equipped with Lifeaire air filtration and RI Witness electronic tracking, and are staffed by certified embryologists. Standards are set at the organizational level by our Chief Scientific Officer and enforced consistently across both cities.
Yes. Twig Fertility BC’s diagnostic laboratory is accredited by the Diagnostic Accreditation Program (DAP). Our quality improvement plan and performance results are available upon request. Please contact hello.bc@twigfertility.com.
Twig’s laboratory processes samples only for Twig patients. Test costs are published on our pricing page, and are available on request from your care team. Test instructions and expected turnaround times are also available to Twig patients from their care team.
